DC Council chairman’s girlfriend carjacked at gas station

WASHINGTON (AP) — Gas station surveillance footage shows the carjacking of the D.C. Council chairman’s girlfriend.

News outlets report thieves stole the woman’s car as she was pumping gas Wednesday morning in the Eastern Market neighborhood. Video shows the passenger of a Lexus at a neighboring pump crouch down next to the woman’s Mercedes before getting in and driving away. The gas hose was still attached to the car’s gas tank. The Lexus followed.

The victim’s purse was still in the car, but she had her wallet.

D.C. Council Chairman Phil Mendelson said he was thankful to those who expressed concern.

Eastern Market is in the District’s Ward 6, which is represented by D.C. Councilmember Charles Allen. Allen says the woman is O.K. and authorities are working on tracking down the thieves.
