2 men sentenced in 2016 DC barber shop shooting

WASHINGTON — Two men convicted of shooting at a Southeast D.C. barber shop which left a father and his young son wounded have been sentenced.

Prosecutors say Terrance Atchison, 22, and Barry Bloomfield, 29, both of D.C., were among three shooters who entered Wrenn’s Barber Shop on 8th Street Southeast on Feb. 12, 2016, and opened fire.

A father and his 21-month-old son, who was on his lap awaiting a haircut, were hit by the bullets.

Prosecutors said the father was hit three times, with one of the bullets shattering his ankle. The toddler was wounded when a bullet grazed his leg, according to court records.

Police said the shooting wasn’t random.

Prosecutors were able to tie Atchinson and Bloomfield to the scene by tracking information from their court-ordered GPS monitoring bracelets that they were wearing at the time of the shooting. Both received the bracelets after being released for other criminal convictions.

Investigators also said surveillance video showed the two running to a waiting SUV shortly after the shooting.

In March, a jury found Atchison and Bloomfield guilty of aggravated assault while armed, assault with significant bodily injury while armed (of a minor), assault with a dangerous weapon and other charges.

D.C. Superior Court judge Danya Dayson sentenced Atchison to 18 years and 6 months in prison and Bloomfield to 16 years and 6 months behind bars.
