DC man dead after being struck by car; driver charged with DUI

WASHINGTON — A man is dead after he was struck by a car in Southeast D.C. Friday morning, and the driver has been charged with involuntary manslaughter as well as driving under the influence.

The victim has been identified as Vincent Childs, 42, of Southeast D.C. He was pronounced dead on the scene.

The D.C. police say Roger Hector Hamilton, 37, of New Carrollton, Maryland, was driving north on Wheeler Road around 2:30 a.m. when he lost control, drove on top of a curb and struck Childs. He then continued driving on the sidewalk, eventually hitting two trees.
