WASHINGTON — An 84-year-old Virginia woman who was struck by a car near a church in D.C. on Christmas Eve has died of her injuries, police said Thursday.

Marcelina Yanez, of Manassas, attempted to cross the 400 block of Michigan Avenue when she was struck by a 2009 Honda Civic. The stretch of street is near the Basilica of the National Shrine of the Immaculate Conception.

D.C. police said Yanez was not in a crosswalk at the time. She had crossed three westbound lanes and two eastbound lanes before she was struck before 6:30 p.m.

The driver of the Civic remained on the scene.

Yanez was transported to a hospital, where she remained in critical condition until her death on Wednesday — 10 days after she was struck.

Anyone with information about the incident was asked to call police at 202-727-9099.
