WASHINGTON — Two workers were rescued from the second level of a construction site in downtown D.C. Friday afternoon after being struck by an object and suffering serious injuries.

The incident happened around 1 p.m. at a construction site north of Chinatown, at the intersection of 10th Street and New York Avenue NW.

It is unclear what exactly struck the workers.

Responders with D.C. Fire and EMS lowered them to safety with a crane.

The construction workers were both taken to the hospital and are expected to recover.
