WASHINGTON —A D.C. police officer made a grim discovery Saturday during routine checks along the Tidal Basin: a man’s body floating face down in debris.
According to a police report, the body was discovered at around 10:15 a.m. Several units were called to pull the man ashore.
Police said the man was pulled from the water, unconscious and not breathing. He was later identified as Tafari Jamal Popo, 21, based on cards he was carrying, police said in the report.
Police said an autopsy was pending.
