WASHINGTON — No need to fly to Austin, Texas: A version of the South by Southwest festival hosted annually in the southern city is coming to D.C. this fall.
In a released statement, the White House announced “South by South Lawn,” a festival inspired by its Texan counterpart that plans to feature short films, host panel discussions with “influencers” and have musical performances. The lineup has not been released. (Perhaps President Barack Obama’s summer playlist may give a sneak peek to a potential lineup.)
But before you start pitching tents on the South Lawn, the only way to attend the event on Oct. 3 is to be nominated. Nominations can be submitted online until Sept. 10 at 5 p.m.
Both the president and the first lady spoke at events during South by Southwest in Austin in March.
