2 dead in DC shooting, 7 wounded

WASHINGTON  —  D.C. police have identified the two men who died in a shooting that left seven others wounded, including an 8-year-old boy, on Saturday night.

Police said Southeast residents Scorpio-Rodney Alonzo Phillips, 31, and Zoruan Otto Harris, 18, were killed. Four men, two women and the boy were wounded. Police said they’re expected to be OK.

The shooting occurred at 8:30 p.m. in the 2600 block of Birney Place in the Barry Farm neighborhood.  Police said it happened during a music event, in a parking lot between two apartment buildings.

Police said arriving officers encountered a large crowd with as many as 100 people, which complicated their work, and when ambulances responded, they had to find the wounded. All seven, including the boy, had retreated to nearby homes and some went to the hospital in private vehicles.

Despite the large number of people on the scene and multiple shooting victims, police said they have no description of whoever was responsible of the shooting.

Interim D.C. Police Chief Peter Newsham said there is an indication that there was more than one shooter.

Police are offering a reward of up to $25,000 for information leading to an arrest and conviction of those responsible for any homicide in the District.
