Victim of hit-and-run in DC identified

WASHINGTON — The D.C. police have released a new video of the car they say a hit-and-run driver used in a crash that killed a man crossing New Hampshire Avenue at M Street in Northwest on Aug. 19.

The police say David Narvaez, 29, of Arlington, was hit before 3 a.m. “by a vehicle that was heading southbound on New Hampshire,” said police spokesman Dustin Sternbeck.  “The driver of the striking vehicle failed to stop and continued driving.”

Narvaez was taken to a hospital where he was pronounced dead.

Investigators said the vehicle was a dark-colored sedan with a light-colored, possibly yellow, rear license tag, and damage to the driver’s-side hood, fender and windshield. The right front passenger is described as having a light complexion. They released surveillance video of the vehicle after the crash, but released new video Friday.

“We are asking that the public help us,” Sternbeck said.  “Even the littlest bit of information could potentially identify the driver or the vehicle involved.”

Anyone with information is urged to call 202-727-9099 or provide anonymous tips through the police department’s TEXT TIP LINE by text messaging 50411.

This incident came about 24 hours after another pedestrian fatality in the District.  Armin Amin-Toomaji, a 44-year old man from Potomac, Maryland, was struck and killed by a car early Thursday morning near the intersection of 9th and O streets in Northwest.
