Update on 7/23/16 at 10 a.m.: The following museums are closed Saturday, July 23 due to a power outage:
- National Museum of the American Indian
- Hirshhorn Museum
- National Museum of African Art
- Arthur M. Sackler Gallery
- Ripley Center
- United States Holocaust Memorial Museum
In addition some museums and attractions not part of the Smithsonian are closed today. The Washington Monument is closed until at least Tuesday due to an elevator problem. The Newseum is closed Saturday and will reopen at 9 a.m. Sunday.
PREVIOUSLY on 7/22/16 at 2 p.m.:
WASHINGTON — A power outage in Downtown D.C. near the National Mall has closed a few of the Smithsonian museums Friday afternoon.
The Smithsonian posted on Twitter that the National Museum of African Art, the National Museum of the American Indian, the Sackler Gallery and the Hirshorn will remain closed the remainder of the day because of the power outage.
The National Air and Space Museum, the National Museum of Natural History and the National Museum of American History will remain open to visitors.
Pepco said that more than 100 customers were without power in the Penn Quarter area and a few more were without power a few blocks to the south along the National Mall.
