Police ID 1st victim found in car submerged in Potomac River

WASHINGTON — A D.C. man was among those found dead inside a car that plunged into the Potomac River last weekend near the Theodore Roosevelt Bridge.

U.S. Park Police identified Marquis Goodman as one of two people found inside the vehicle, which was found submerged in the river.

Park police did not say whether Goodman was behind the wheel or a passenger. His age was not released.

The cause of the crash and the causes of the two occupants’ deaths remain under investigation.

The car was traveling north on Ohio Drive near Parkway Drive when it left the road and crashed into the river about 10:40 p.m. Saturday. A passenger managed to escape the car and swim to shore, according to police.

The survivor, whose name was not released, was taken to a hospital.

Emergency responders from D.C. police, Park police and the U.S. Coast Guard, along fire boats from D.C. and Alexandria, scoured the water for about two hours before the car was located under water.

Anyone with information is asked to call Park police investigators at 202-610-8730.
