WASHINGTON — A boy is expected to survive after he was shot in the leg in Southeast D.C. Wednesday, and the shooting may be related to the shooting of a nearby U.S. Park Police building.
A boy was shot in the leg in the 2600 block of Stanton Road in Southeast Wednesday afternoon. Police recovered the gun and there are no suspects in custody, a D.C. police spokesperson said.
D.C. police says the boy will survive, but have not released details about the extent of his injuries. Officials have not released any additional details about the case, including the age of the boy.
Around the same time, the U.S. Park Police facility where the agency stores its helicopter and train its staff was closed after gunfire was reported around 11:40 a.m.
A U.S. Park Police spokeswoman said a bullet that hit the federal building appears to be related to the shooting involving the boy.
