WASHINGTON — Police are searching for a person of interest after a fatal stabbing at the Deanwood Metro station in D.C. Monday morning.

A suspect stabbed a teenager in the station near the fare gate around 11 a.m. Emergency crews transported the teen with “very significant” wounds to a nearby hospital. He later died in what police have ruled a homicide.

He has been identified as 15-year-old John Rufus Evans III, of Northeast, D.C.

By Monday afternoon, police released information about a person of interest in the stabbing, who fled on foot.

The person of interest is described as a 14- to 20-year-old black male, medium complexion, medium build, with dreadlocks and braces. He was last seen wearing blue jeans and a black jacket.

It is not yet clear what led to the stabbing.

Metrorail trains bypassed the Deanwood Metro station during the police investigation, and service has since resumed.

Just last month, a 15-year-old boy was shot and killed on the train’s platform at the Deanwood station. Davonte Washington was with his mom and younger sisters when he was killed.

If you have information about the person of interest in Monday’s stabbing, contact police at 202-727-9099. Police are offering a reward of up to $25,000 to anyone that provides information that leads to the arrest and conviction of the suspect.
