Man barricaded inside Georgetown office surrenders

WASHINGTON — A barricade situation near the Georgetown Waterfront Monday evening has been resolved after more than seven hours.

The man was locked in an office in the 3000 block of K Street NW and refused to come out.

The man was in the building from shortly before 3 p.m to around 10:30 p.m. Monday evening.

So far, police are releasing few details about the man,  including why he may have holed up inside. However, they say he will not be charged and will instead be taken for psychiatric evaluation.

Police say the successful surrender was based upon negotiations with officers. Neither the man or any law enforcement or emergency personnel were injured during the negotiations.

K Street, under the Whitehurst Freeway, is open.
