D.C. police officer shoots, kills knife-wielding man

WASHINGTON — A D.C. police officer shot and killed a knife-wielding man Thursday afternoon.

The officer shot a man along Dix Street near Division Avenue in Northeast at about 2 p.m. Thursday.

Police said in a statement that the man was carrying “a large, hunting-style knife along with a second edged weapon” and that the man confronted the officer.

Police say the officer fired once in self-defense.

Emergency crews transported the man to a hospital, where he later died.

Police have not identified the man. The shooting is under investigation.
