WASHINGTON — Starting Friday, the D.C. streetcar project will jam up the H Street corridor in the District for about a week.
The parking lanes of both sides of H Street in Northeast, as well as the adjacent travel lanes, between 3rd and 14th Streets, will be closed on a rolling basis for the paintings of red stripes that will warn drivers about opening car doors onto the streetcar tracks.
The striping “is an important safety upgrade that will address the safety and operational matter of vehicles parking outside of the white line parking boundary,” DC Streetcar says.
Here’s the list:
- Friday, Aug. 14: Parking on both sides of H Street between 3rd and 14th Streets will be prohibited from 7 a.m. to 2 p.m.
- Monday, Aug. 17, and Tuesday, Aug. 18: Parking on both sides of H Street between 3rd and 7th Streets will be prohibited from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m.
- Tuesday, Aug. 18, and Wednesday, Aug. 19: Parking on both sides of H Street between 7th and 10th Streets will be prohibited from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. for the installation of the red striping.
- Wednesday, Aug. 19 and Thursday, Aug. 20: Parking on both sides of H Street between 10th 12th Streets will be prohibited from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m.
- Thursday, Aug. 20, and Friday, Aug. 21: Parking on both sides of H Street between 12th and 14th Streets will be prohibited from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Metrobuses will still run during the work; flaggers will be at each stop. Parking restrictions will be lifted as the work progresses from block to block.
