D.C. police officer appears in court on child porn charge

WASHINGTON – A longtime D.C. police officer and pastor faced a judge in federal court Monday on a charge of producing child pornography.

During his appearance in U.S. District Court, Darrell Best was ordered to remain held without bond.

Best was arrested in March, accused of sexually assaulting two girls, ages 16 and 17.

According to court documents, Best assaulted the 16-year-old girl several times at God-A Second Chance Ministry Church from December 2014 through February of this year. Best served as pastor at that church in Southeast.

The child porn charge stems from sexually explicit photos of the 16-year old that prosecutors claim were discovered on Best’s cellphone.

Best is accused of assaulting the 17-year old girl in his office at D.C. police headquarters in December. He was an officer in the District for 25 years. Best is now suspended without pay.
