1 dead, 1 critically hurt in D.C. fire

WASHINGTON — One person died and a second was critically injured in an early morning house fire that spread to two adjoining homes in Northwest D.C.

The fire in the 1000 block of Kenyon Street broke out around 6:30 a.m. Monday at a row house near Tubman Elementary, according to D.C. Fire and EMS.

The two people were taken to the hospital with life-threatening injuries and one did not survive. The second person remains in critical condition.

Three firefighters suffered minor injuries in the two-alarm blaze, which spread to two adjoining row houses, according to the fire department.

Three families and nine people were displaced by the fire, which is under investigation.
