Washington Monument closed Thursday for elevator repairs

UPDATE 10:30 p.m. 12/18/2014: The National Park Service says the Washington Monument will open as scheduled at 9 a.m. Friday.

EARLIER: WASHINGTON — The Washington Monument will be closed Thursday because of a computer glitch with the elevators.

The National Park Service says the elevators aren’t working because of problems with the control panel that operates the elevators.

Repairs to the system are underway Thursday after it went down Wednesday.

All tickets will be honored as soon as the monument reopens.
