Wayne Rooney to DC United? Deal is close

WASHINGTON — Wayne Rooney has agreed in principle to leave his Premier League team Everton and join D.C. United this summer. Sources tell WTOP the deal is close, but not complete.

The BBC values the transfer fee United would pay at $16 million. If the deal goes through Rooney would join D.C. United July 10 when the summer transfer window opens and in time for the opening of the team’s new stadium Audi Field on July 14.

Rooney is the England National Team’s all-time leading scorer with 53 goals in 119 appearances.

Currently Rooney is wrapping his season with Everton where he has scored 10 goals this season. Rooney’s rise to stardom occurred at Manchester United where in 12 seasons he scored 183 goals in 393 appearances.
