Bridge resurfacing work on Beltway in Montgomery Co. ends early

WASHINGTON — All lanes on the Outer Loop of the Capital Beltway in Montgomery County have reopened following bridge resurfacing work.

Three left lanes were blocked on the outer loop of Interstate 495 between Georgia Avenue and Connecticut Avenue. The bridge work was supposed to last until 5 p.m., but crews finished the work early, shortly after 1:30 p.m. Saturday.

The work caused major delays and traffic headaches. .

WTOP’s traffic reporter Mary de Pompa said the work on the Beltway cause additional delays on smaller roads in Montgomery County as people navigated around all the traffic.

One of the workaround routes continues to see delays. Construction on Colesville Road between the Beltway and Georgia Avenue brings about single lane closures from 9 a.m. to around 5 p.m.
