WASHINGTON — A crash involving two tractor-trailers Wednesday morning backed up traffic on northbound Interstate 95 in Prince William County, Virginia, and the alternate route of U.S. 1.
The backups on I-95 near Dumfries at the Dale City truck scales started around 4:45 a.m. when two tractor-trailers collided at the weigh station. A saddle tank on one of the trucks ruptured and started spilling diesel fuel on the roadway.
For more than two hours, the right lane was blocked, leading to a backup stretching several miles.
Crews have been on the scene to clean up the spill.
Access to the truck scales is blocked.
Drivers have been taking the Express Lanes and U.S. 1.
All the extra traffic on U.S. 1 has also led to some delays. Prince William County Public Schools said that some buses traveling that area might be delayed on Wednesday morning.
Due to heavy traffic conditions impacting Route 1, buses traveling in that area may experience delays this morning.
