WASHINGTON — Metro says service will not be restored on its Blue, Orange and Silver lines between Eastern Market and L’Enfant Plaza for the rest of Thursday after a debris fire — the latest in a series of Metro mishaps.
Security cameras caught the dramatic smoke incident at the Federal Center station.
In an interview this evening with NBC Washington, Metro General Manager Paul Wiedefeld said the incident was caused by a debris fire. This all comes a day before Metro General Manager Paul Wiedefeld is set to announce major changes to Metro service.
The Federal Center SW station remained closed to replace a full third-rail insulator. Capitol South and Eastern Market stations are also closed.
Metrobus shuttle service is being established and will operate between the two stations.
No injuries have been reported.
Wiedefeld said crews will work through the night and expects the station to be reopened Friday morning.
