WASHINGTON — The owners of D.C.’s Dacha Beer Garden have submitted revised plans for a second location on 14th Street Northwest to address concerns about noise.
Dacha partners Ilya Alter and Dmitri Chekaldin, who opened their Shaw neighborhood beer garden at 7th and O streets in Northwest in 2013, say the new design includes a much smaller outdoor garden in exchange for a much larger enclosed space and incorporates design from a professional sound engineer and a build-out budget that is about triple their original plans.
The two say they hope the redesign wins them neighborhood favor in their monthslong effort for approval of a pending liquor license.
“We have listened to a relatively small group of area residents concerned about conversational noise generated by customers seated outside,” said Chekaldin. “This resulted in our decision to significantly expand the scope of the new building and the interior size to resolve those worries,” he said.
Chekaldin says the construction budget is now nearly $3 million.
The new building’s design now surrounds the smaller outdoor courtyard on three sides.
Dacha is also awaiting liquor license approval for a third location, near Nats Park at the Dock 79 mixed-use project on Potomac Avenue Southeast.
