WASHINGTON — What has been widely reported for weeks is now official: Under Armour has landed its first-ever professional league uniform deal, a 10-year partnership with Major League Baseball.
The Baltimore-based athletic wear maker will supply MLB with uniforms under the partnership, which starts in 2020. Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.
The MLB deal also includes Fanatics, one of the biggest officially licensed sports merchandisers, which will be in charge of marketing fan merchandise.
The partnership makes Under Armour the exclusive provider of all on-field uniforms, including jerseys with the Under Armour logo prominently displayed. Under Armour will also provide its “connected fitness” devices to MLB teams.
“This is a watershed moment for the Under Armour brand as this partnership with MLB and Fanatics furthers our collective dedication to bringing passion, energy and innovation to the game of baseball,” said Under Armour founder and CEO Kevin Plank.
The new deal will replace MLB’s long-running uniform deal with VF Corporation’s Majestic Uniforms.
Under Armour has been MLB’s official footwear partner since 2011. Under Armour also has sponsorship deals with more than 400 individual athletes in the major and minor leagues, including the Washington Nationals’ Bryce Harper.
