WeddingWire adding jobs in Chevy Chase

WASHINGTON — Weddings are big business, and 9-year-old WeddingWire, an online resource for a wide range of wedding services for engaged couples, needs more space and more employees to keep up with growth.

The Chevy Chase-based company is expanding its headquarters lease and plans to add 200 new jobs to its current workforce of 350 at 2 Wisconsin Circle.

WeddingWire, started in founder Timothy Chi’s living room in 2007, now operates in 15 countries and lists more than 400,000 wedding services, professionals and venues in its database of reviewed vendors.  It is one of Maryland’s fastest-growing technology companies.

WeddingWire has a reported 10 million monthly unique users.

The company will get a $1 million conditional loan through the Maryland Economic Development Assistance Authority and Fund, and a $500,000 conditional grant from Montgomery County’s Economic Development Fund. Both are contingent on job creation.

Job openings as part of WeddingWire’s expansion include technology engineers, sales reps and marketing professionals.

In addition to its Chevy Chase headquarters, the company also has an international headquarters in Barcelona, Spain and more than 800 employees globally.
