New luxury ride-hailing service coming to DC

WASHINGTON — How do you set yourself apart among the District’s ever-increasing, on-demand ride-hailing choices? You call yourself luxury and aim for executives.

ICars, which launched its service in San Francisco earlier this year, bills itself as a luxury car service for corporate and executive travelers — or anyone who’d like a little more style in their ride.

The service offers both immediate app-hailing and -booking for future rides. Its chauffeurs drive only black luxury sedans or SUVs, the company said.

The service also uses Mercedes Sprinter-class vehicles, the posh vans favored by celebrities and rock stars.

ICars works with hotel concierges and company travel departments, positioning it well within the hospitality and corporate segments.

The company said it only partners with fully insured and background-checked professional chauffeurs.

In addition to San Francisco, the iCars service is also available in Austin, Dallas and Houston. It will expand to D.C. in the coming months, as well as New York, Los Angeles, Chicago, Boston and Philadelphia.

The company has not provided pricing for the D.C. market. According to its website, the cost of a ride from downtown San Francisco to the city’s airport ranges from about $60 to about $90. ICars says there is never any surge charging.
