D.C. area ties NY for companies on Fortune’s ‘Best Companies’ list

WASHINGTON — No D.C.-area company ranked in the top 25 on Fortune’s 2016 list of 100 Best Companies to Work For, but seven companies in the region made the list, tying New York for the number of companies and second only to San Francisco for representation.

McLean-based Hilton Worldwide, ranking No. 56, was among six newcomers to the publication’s “Best Places” list.

The list is based on a random sample of employee surveys on things like management credibility, job satisfaction and camaraderie. Two-thirds of a company’s score is based on those surveys. The other third is based on what Fortune calls a company “Culture Audit,” which includes questions about pay and benefits, hiring practices, training, recognition programs and diversity efforts.
