Arlington Co. teaching assistant and coach accused of selling pot to teen

WASHINGTON — An Arlington County Public Schools teaching assistant and coach is accused of selling marijuana to a 13-year-old, and police want to know if the guy sold drugs to other kids too.

Zachary Van Dyke, 32, is charged with contributing to the delinquency of a minor and distribution of marijuana.

He’s being held on bond in the Arlington County Detention Facility.

Pending the results of an investigation, Van Dyke has been suspended from his jobs as a teaching assistant at Gunston Middle School and a freshman basketball coach at Washington-Lee High School.

Arlington County Police say on Friday, Van Dyke transported a 13-year-old to his home where they smoked marijuana.

Van Dyke also is accused of selling the teen some pot.

Police say they think Van Dyke may have had similar interactions with other kids.
