WASHINGTON — A stranger forced his way inside an Alexandria, Virginia, apartment Saturday afternoon and sexually assaulted the woman who lived there, police say.

Alexandria police said the attack happened about 12:15 p.m. Saturday after the unknown man forced his way into the 23-year-old woman’s apartment in the 5800 block of block of Quantrell Avenue.

Police released photos from surveillance cameras of the suspect in the assault.

Police spokeswoman Crystal Nosal said the man held the woman against her will for between 30 minutes to an hour and sexually assaulted her. The woman was able to call for police after the man fled, police said.

The woman described the suspect as a Hispanic or Middle Eastern man with dark brown hair and brown eyes. She said he looked between 25 and 35 years old, about 5 feet 9 inches tall and 170 lbs.

Anyone with information is asked to contact Detective JP Jones with Alexandria police at (703) 746-6867.
