WASHINGTON — A Maryland man has been arrested in a shooting just inside the Capital Beltway in Alexandria, Virginia, during what police are calling a possible road-rage incident Wednesday morning.
The Alexandria police said the shooting happened in the 4600 block of Eisenhower Avenue shortly before 8 a.m. Wednesday.
A woman in one of the vehicles was shot and taken to the hospital with serious injuries. Officials said Wednesday she is in stable condition. A man who was also in the vehicle was not injured.
Wednesday afternoon, the Alexandria police identified the suspect as Ernest Stickell, 58, of Mechanicsville, Maryland. He has been charged with malicious wounding and use of a firearm in the commission of a felony, and was taken into custody by the Maryland State Police Wednesday afternoon.
Police said Stickell drove away after shooting the woman.
Police have not released any details about what led up to the shooting.
