Industrial accident closes street in Alexandria

WASHINGTON — The 700 block of Wythe Street remains closed Wednesday as police in Alexandria, Virginia, investigate an industrial accident.

A portion of North Washington Street between Pendleton and Madison streets that had been closed has reopened. Washington Street eventually turns into the George Washington Parkway, a major commuter route into D.C.

In a Facebook posting, Alexandria police said a crane hit a live line, which then fell to the ground and struck a construction worker.

Police said one person has been burned by electricity in the accident and has been taken to the hospital with critical injuries.
