Arrest made in death of Va. man injured during robbery

WASHINGTON — A man has been arrested in connection with the death of 69-year-old Melaku Abraha, who died from injuries sustained during a robbery in Alexandria, Virginia.

Police said Tuesday that 22-year-old George McGee II, of Capital Heights, Maryland, has been charged with murder and robbery. He is being held without bond in Prince George’s County.

On March 28, officers responded to the 200 block of South Alfred Street for the report of an assault. Police found Abraha suffering from a head injury, and was taken to a hospital.

Police say his condition continued to worsen over several days, and he succumbed to his injuries on April 1.

“As always, I am impressed by the hard work of our Alexandria Police detectives and their unwavering commitment to the victim and his family. Their dedication resulted in an arrest in less than two weeks.” said Police Chief Earl Cook.

“I would also like to thank the Prince George’s County Police Department for their assistance in arresting the suspect.”

Police ask that anyone with information about this call (703) 746 — 6751.

Abraha’s death was the first homicide in Alexandria in 2016.
