Man assaulted during robbery in Alexandria dies from injuries

WASHINGTON — Alexandria Police are investigating after a man was assaulted during a robbery, and later died.

Officers responded to the 200 block of South Alfred Street around 9:30 p.m. Tuesday for the report of an assault. Police found the victim suffering from a head injury, and was taken to a hospital.

Police say the man’s condition continued to worsen over several days, and he succumbed to his injuries on Friday.

The victim has been identified as 69-year-old Melaku Abraha, of Alexandria.

Upon investigation, police say the assault occurred during a robbery.
