Man arrested after trying to abduct two Alexandria women

WASHINGTON – Two women escaped separate attempted abductions in Old Town Alexandria Thursday night and police say they’ve arrested their attacker.

Alexandria Police say 34-year-old Marquette Johnson followed a woman into her apartment building in the 900 Block of North Patrick Street just after 9 p.m.

He got into the elevator with her and tried to force his way into the woman’s apartment — but she yelled and he ran away.

Less than an hour later, police say Johnson tried to force his way into another woman’s apartment in the 700 block of North Fayette Street, just a few blocks away from the first attempted abduction. Again, he ran away after the woman yelled for help.

Officers arrested Johnson nearby. He’s charged with two counts of attempted abduction and two counts of attempted burglary. He was being held without bail.

Police are asking anyone with information about these crimes to call Detective Brad Cecchetti at 703-746-6858.
