WASHINGTON — After all this time inside, some residents may be getting antsy and want to clean off the car, but they may want to wait.
While shoveling is smart in segments, when it comes to cleaning off your car, WTOP Traffic’s Bob Marbourg suggests drivers hold off.
“It’s particularly important if it’s going to sleet or rain that you leave snow on the car. It’ll be easier to push the snow off the car than it is to scrape the ice off the glass,” he says.
He also suggests resisting the temptation to use hot water to expedite the job.
“Please don’t. It’s likely to crack the glass,” Marbourg says.
And if the car locks are frozen, find a lubricant to ensure it doesn’t freeze again.
“The best — sold in hardware stores — is a little tube or bottle of graphite, basically ground up pencil lead. But that’ll provide a lubricant without attracting dust or collecting water,” he says.
