Survey ranks the world’s most scenic airport approaches

WASHINGTON — A list of the most scenic airport approaches may have you booking a window seat next time you fly.

PrivateFly, a company that books private jet charters, conducted a survey of the most scenic airport approaches. The results, released last month, list one United States airport in the top 10.

The poll was conducted in March and April and received more than 3,000 votes, PrivateFly told CNN.

Below is the top 10 list:

  1. Queenstown Airport, New Zealand
  2. Las Vegas McCarran Airport, United States
  3. Nice Cote D’Azur Airport, France
  4. Barra Airport, Scotland, UK
  5. St. Maarten Airport (Princess Juliana International), Caribbean
  6. Saba Airport (Juancho E Yrausquin), Caribbean Netherlands
  7. Billy Bishop Toronto City Airport, Canada
  8. Gibraltar Airport, UK
  9. London City Airport, UK
  10. Cape Town Airport, South Africa

“Our poll has become an annual checklist for the well-traveled, and offers a fascinating mix of global descents,” Adam Twidell, CEO of PrivateFly and an experienced pilot, told CNN.

Some of the airports have become well known around the world. For example, the Saba Airport has the world’s shortest commercial runway.

Also, the No. 5 ranking, St. Maarten Airport, has made an impact online as videos of the planes’ close landings to a nearby beach have gone viral.
