New Tinder app charges over-30 users more

WASHINGTON — Looking for love in your 30s can cost a little more with a new version of a popular dating app.

Tinder Plus, a premium version of Tinder’s mobile app, launched Monday, Tech Crunch reports, and offers new features such as unlimited “likes,” undo options and worldwide searches. The premium version, however, will cost users who are older than 30 more than those who are younger than 30.

In the U.S., Tinder Plus costs $9.99 a month for those who are younger than 30. Those in the over-30 club will pay $19.99, according to Quartz.

“Lots of products offer differentiated price tiers by age, like Spotify does for students, for example,” a Tinder spokesman said to Quartz in a statement.

“Tinder is no different; during our testing we’ve learned, not surprisingly, that younger users are just as excited about TinderPlus, but are more budget constrained, and need a lower price to pull the trigger.”

Tinder, which connects people based on their locations and profiles, will still offer a free basic version.
