Police arrest man accused of exposing himself to girl at Va. Home Depot

WASHINGTON — Prince William County police arrested a 36-year-old man Thursday they say exposed himself to a girl at the Woodbridge Home Depot earlier this week.

Police say on Sept. 3 around 5:30 p.m., Matthew Newton, a 36-year-old from Woodbridge, exposed himself and made an obscene gesture to an 8-year-old girl at the Home Depot located at 14025 Foulger Sq.

One of the girl’s family members, a 47-year-old woman, confronted Newton and got a photo of him, according to police. That’s when Newton assaulted her and fled the scene, police said.

Police arrested Newton on Thursday after calls from the public led them to verify him as the suspect.

“After the initial release of the incident to the public, police received multiple calls regarding the possible identity of the suspect involved,” police said in a news release.

Newton is charged with indecent exposure, taking indecent liberties with a child and assault and battery. He is being held without bond.

His next court date is scheduled for Oct. 27.
