Police investigate Manassas stabbing, shooting

WASHINGTON — Police in Manassas City, Virginia, are investigating a fatal shooting that took place in a residential area early Friday morning.

Manassas police responded to the 9200 block of Byrd Drive at about 1 a.m. for a report of a shooting. After officers arrived, they located a man suffering from several gunshot wounds. The man, who was later identified as Jose Tomas Velasquez, 44, of Manassas, was taken to the hospital and later died.

Police haven’t made any arrests yet and are continuing their investigation.

Earlier in the evening, Prince William County police investigated the stabbing death of a Manassas man. At about 8:20 p.m. Thursday, officers responded to the 8000 block of Stream Walk Lane where they discovered a man suffering from multiple stab wounds. The man, who has not yet been publicly identified, was taken to the hospital where he later died.

Police said they believe the man was stabbed during an altercation with another man behind a business in the area. The suspect remains at large, Prince William County police said in a statement Friday.
