Tourist fatally struck by vehicle in Prince George’s Co.

WASHINGTON — A woman visiting from China has died after she was hit by a pickup truck Tuesday night in Laurel, Maryland.

Yanhua Zhu, 74, was traveling with her family from Pennsylvania to D.C. when their tour bus stopped for a break while on U.S. Route 1, police said. When she tried to cross the road, she was hit by a Ford pickup truck traveling southbound on Route 1/Baltimore Avenue.

Maryland State Police responded to the crash south of Locust Grove Drive just before 7:30 p.m.

Zhu was taken to a hospital where she was pronounced dead.

The driver of the truck has been identified as Frederic Silver, 56, of Laurel, and he was the only person in his vehicle. He was not injured during the crash.

According to police, the cause of the crash is still under investigation, but there was no indication that Silver was driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs.
