WASHINGTON — Prince George’s County police officers are searching for a man they say stabbed his girlfriend, tried to sexually assault a young girl and started a fire all in the same week.
Police say Richard Butler III — a 34-year-old Landover, Maryland resident — stabbed his girlfriend repeatedly in the 10000 block of Tyrone Drive in Upper Marlboro on March 7 at about 11 a.m. He then fled the scene.
The victim is seriously hurt, but is expected to survive, according to county police.
Butler also is wanted for attempting to sexually assault a young girl he knew at a Hyattsville, Maryland, apartment March 4, police say.
Later that day, police say he threw an “incendiary device” through a window at the same apartment, sparking a fire. No one was hurt.
Butler is charged with attempted first degree murder, second degree sex offense, arson and several additional charges.
Anyone with information on Butler’s whereabouts is urged to call 911. If you have information about the case, contact police at 301-772-4930 or 1-866-411-TIPS.
