Police search for trash truck in fatal hit-and-run on Md. Route 4

WASHINGTON — Police are searching for a trash truck they say is involved in a fatal hit-and-run on Md. Route 4 in Forestville.

Prince George’s County police say the crash occurred just before 7:30 a.m. Tuesday in the southbound lanes of Pennsylvania Avenue (Route 4) near the Beltway. Police say 37-year-old Ghada Ahmed of Upper Marlboro had just gotten off I-495 when her pickup truck made contact with a trash truck.

Officers say the truck then struck a pole. Ahmed was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police say the trash truck, described as being green or blue with red lettering and “fresh damage” to the passenger side, left the scene.

Investigators say, based on the reconstruction of the accident scene, they believe it’s possible the driver of the truck didn’t realize he hit the car.

All lanes on southbound Route 4 between Forestville Road and the Beltway were blocked, as well as the on-ramp to the Inner Loop of the Beltway, while police investigated. All lanes and the on-ramp were reopened around 11:30 a.m.

Officers are looking for the trash truck and its driver.
