Protein Bar bulks up Ballston

Chicago-based Protein Bar, whose light fare menu includes high-protein drinks, chili, soups, salads and its signature, low calorie Bar-ritos, is opening a second Washington location in Ballston this week.

The new store, at 800 N. Glebe Road, opens Jan. 30.

Protein Bar opened its first Washington location in Penn Quarter in August and has plans to open another location at 19th and K Street, N.W. this spring.

Founder Matt Matros opened the first Protein Bar in Chicago in 2009 after losing 60 pounds on a high-protein diet.

The chain has eight locations in the Chicago area now.
