WASHINGTON — Three teenagers have been taken back into custody after escaping briefly from a Montgomery County detention center Sunday evening.
The teens, two of whom are 15 years old, the other, 17, left the Alfred D. Noyes Children’s Center, in Rockville, around 7 p.m.
“Officers set up a perimeter around Key West and Great Seneca Highway,” said Capt. Paul Starks, of the Montgomery County police.
During the search, police used K-9 units and had help from a Maryland State Police helicopter.
“Two of the juveniles were located in a field off Muddy Branch Road and were taken into custody without incident,” Starks said.
A bus driver helped track down the third escapee.
“We gave the description of the juveniles to our Ride On bus system,” said Starks. The teen jumped on a Ride On bus to get to his home in Gaithersburg, and the bus driver called the police after noticing he matched the description that had been given out. Officers went to the teen’s home, off Lost Knife Drive, and captured him.
“They went to that location and found him there and it was over,” said Starks.
The whole ordeal lasted about two hours.
Maryland Juvenile Services said the center has been secured and they are investigating the incident.
