Montgomery County Council panel to discuss MetroAccess

ROCKVILLE, Md. (AP) – A Montgomery County Council panel will hold a work session on a program that provides transit service to people who cannot use the region’s fixed-route bus and rail systems due to disabilities.

The council committee is scheduled to meet on Thursday in Rockville.

The program called MetroAccess is the region’s complementary service offered in accordance with the Americans with Disabilities Act.

It can be used for any trip purposed within three-quarters of a mile of areas serviced by Metrobus and Metrorail during the same hours of operation as regular Metrobus and Metrorail service. It’s a “shared ride” program, which means multiple passengers may ride together in the same vehicle.

The panel has periodically asked for updates to the program.
