WASHINGTON — The American health care worker with Ebola admitted to the National Institutes of Health in Bethesda, Maryland, was released Thursday and is in good condition.
The health care worker who contracted Ebola while volunteering in a Sierra Leone treatment was discharged after having been successfully treated at the NIH Clinical Center Special Clinical Studies Unit, according to a NIH news release.
The individual is no longer contagious to the community, NIH said in the release.
At the request of the patient, no further information is being provided. The patient’s name, age and gender have not been released.
The patient was the second admitted to the NIH Clinical Center. Previously, an American nurse was treated there after she contracted Ebola while caring for a patient in a Dallas hospital. The nurse, Nina Pham, survived and is Ebola-free.
NIH has one of the few specialized isolation units nationwide set up to treat Ebola patients.
