Man charged with leaving hoax explosive device at Fairfax Co. mosque

WASHINGTON — A man is facing charges after officials say he left a hoax explosive device at a Fairfax County mosque last week.

Fairfax County Fire and Rescue Department says 27-year-old Chester Gore damaged property and left a fake explosive at Dar Al-Hijrah Islamic Center located at 3159 Row Street in Falls Church on Nov. 19.

Gore is facing charges for using a hoax explosive, entering the property of another for the purpose of causing damage based on religious conviction, destruction of property of less than $1,000 and possession and use of illegal fireworks.

Police say he caused $200 in damage to a gate on the property.

Gore is being held at the Fairfax County Adult Detention Center without bond.
