Youth theatre group debuts at Atlas Performing Arts Center

WASHINGTON – Two young theater climbers had the guts to reach out to WTOP, so you’re darn right we made time for a sit-down interview.

Producer Sam Cornbrooks is a 16-year-old from Lee High School in Springfield, Virginia.

Musical Director James Woods is a 16-year-old from Metropolitan School of the Arts Academy in Lorton, Virginia.

Together, they’re teaming on “The Last Five Years,” the debut production of the newly-formed Metropolitan Youth Arts Theatre.

“Metropolitan Youth Arts Theatre is a completely student-run theater company,” Cornbrooks tells WTOP “The director, Chad Vann, and I founded it, because we wanted to see what it was like in the real-world of theater to do this all on our own, because that’s what we’re going to pursue as a career.”

The show opens Friday with a sold-out show at Atlas Performing Arts Center on H Street NE.

However, you can still get tickets for the other performances on Saturday and Sunday.
