Two men killed in separate shootings in DC

WASHINGTON — D.C. police are investigating two deadly shootings in Southeast D.C. on Sunday.

The first shooting happened just before 1 p.m. at the corner of 7th and L streets Southeast, about a block north of Navy Yard. A man and a woman were shot, but the man, later identified as 27-year-old Anthony Young of Southeast D.C., did not survive.

Interim Police Chief Peter Newsham said the incident did not appear random. “It appears the victim and the suspect did know each other,” he said.

The shooting was close to where a 16-year-old girl was gunned down a few days earlier. Newsham said that shooting had no apparent connection to the latest case.

A second fatal shooting was reported in Southeast D.C. on Sunday, a couple of hours after the first incident.

Police said a man was shot to death at around 4 p.m. near the corner of Howard Road and Martin Luther King Jr. Avenue.

Police have not released the name of this victim and are still looking for suspects in both cases.
